Canned Rega Rega DOP San Marzano Tomatoes

28 oz (800 grams) - San Marzano, Italy

Recently featured on Dr Oz as one of the top 5 super foods, don't be fooled by "San MarzanoTomatoes" grown in canned in the US. These are the real deal - grown and canned in Italy and DOP certificed as the real schlemiel. And you can definitely taste the difference.

While the tomato originated in the New World and didn't make it to Italy until the 17th century, it made up for lost time quickly!

Not only is Italian cuisine, of course, renowned for tomatoes, but the San Marzano region near Naples is considered one of the best tomato-growing regions in the world - a true tomato heaven! These are the real thing, certified from the Sarnese-Nocerino area.

Why are these Rega Rega tomatoes so good? Because they take healthy, ripe tomatoes and processes them the day they are picked, preserving all of the genuine freshness and perfume of the tomato.

Control exactly how much salt you'd like in your recipe, with no worries about excess sodium. Like some other wonderful European agricultural products, these tomatoes have a D.O.P. certification (Denominazione di Origine Protetta), ensuring their provenance and quality. They are also perfectly cooked outside the can, and then heated just enough in the can to seal in all that delicious flavor. Perfect every time.

Ingredients:

San Marzano plum peeled tomatoes, San Marzano tomato puree, basil leaf.

Tasty
i was pleased with the depth of the taste that the Rega Rega tomatoes added to the soup I prepared. Going forward I will choose these canned tomatoes for the soups, etc. that I prepare

Best canned tomatoes
For years, I cooked summer tomatoes and froze them. I was so proud of my efforts. Then I tried these tomatoes and stopped freezing my home grown tomatoes. Straight out of the can the taste seems a little bland, but when cooked they become richer. I just add a little oregano, olive oil and salt.

Regal Tomatoes
Rega Rega San Marzano (not "San Marzano style") canned tomatoes are superior to other brands we've tried. They are richer and possess a purer tomato flavor, with no tinny, bitter aftertaste. They are versatile, working equally well for pizza/pasta sauce (both cooked and uncooked versions), chili, and tomato soup. The large size can is ideal for soup, as it is nearly equal to four smaller cans. We may have flirted with other brands, but we always come back to our true tomato love: Rega Rega!
