Dark chocolate and black currant are natural partners, but Ara’s Cassis bar makes the combination particularly vivid.

Ara starts with 70% single-origin dark chocolate and adds real French cassis from Burgundy, drying the fruit and pressing it directly onto the back of the bar. Instead of blending the fruit completely into the chocolate, this approach lets us experience the cassis and cacao both separately and together.

We recommend placing a piece cassis-side down directly on the tongue. As it begins to melt, the black currant hits first: tart, deeply fruity, and almost wine-like. Then the dark chocolate begins to soften underneath it, bringing richness and depth while tempering the fruit’s acidity. The contrast between tangy cassis and smooth dark chocolate makes this one of those bars where the flavor changes noticeably from the first taste to the finish.

It’s distinctly French, distinctly Ara, and an especially good bar for anyone who loves dark chocolate with bright fruit.

Tasting notes: Black currant, dark fruit, bright acidity, deep chocolate.

About Ara Chocolat: Founded in Paris in 2015 by Venezuelan chocolate makers Andrés Zakhour and Sabrina Trillos, Ara Chocolat makes micro-batch bean-to-bar chocolate with an extraordinary focus on cacao origin and biodiversity. Andrés works directly with growers and cooperatives throughout Latin America to source rare native and ancestral cacao varieties, building transparent relationships while helping preserve the remarkable diversity of fine cacao. Ara roasts and crafts its chocolate in its small Paris workshop, allowing the character of each origin and cacao variety to remain at the center of every bar.
