40 gram bar - Maui, Hawaii
This bar brings together beloved flavors of the Hawaiian islands, coconut and coffee, married to locally-grown cacao. Valley Isle Chocolate crafts a smooth coconut milk chocolate using cacao from Kona on the Big Island, then finishes the back of the bar with crushed 100% Maui-grown Oma Coffee, adding both aroma and texture.
Before I even take a bite, the scent catches my attention. The aroma of freshly ground, roasty coffee beans rises immediately, and I always like to pause for a moment and enjoy that fragrance before breaking off a square. Once it melts, the chocolate is creamy and gently sweet, with the coconut milk softening the intensity of the coffee.
The flavor unfolds with bold coffee notes first, followed by a faint smokiness and the sweetness of fresh coconut. The crushed coffee beans add a satisfying crunch that keeps the experience lively from beginning to end.
This bar earned a Bronze Award at the 2025 Academy of Chocolate, and it’s easy to see why. For me, it’s a beautiful meeting of Hawaiian cacao and Maui coffee—a treat for the senses!
p.s. It's vegan!
