Ingredients & Details

100% cocoa

58 g bar – Paris, France

Ara’s Porcelana 87% takes one of the world’s most prized cacao varieties and gives us even more of it.

The cacao comes directly from Finca Caño de Tigre in the Sur del Lago de Maracaibo region of Venezuela, an area celebrated for exceptional Criollo cacao. Porcelana is an heirloom Criollo variety renowned for its delicacy and complexity, and Ara’s direct relationship with the plantation gives the chocolate a particularly clear expression of its origin.

For lovers of Ara’s perennial-favorite 70% Porcelana, this 87% bar turns up the cacao without sacrificing the elegance that makes Porcelana so special. With a postage-stamp-size piece melting on our tongue, we get an immediate rush of nuts, followed by caramel and toffee notes. It’s intensely cacao-rich yet surprisingly smooth.

This is a dark chocolate for people who want intensity without losing nuance.

Tasting notes: Nuts, caramel, toffee.

Cacao: Heirloom Criollo Porcelana cacao from Finca Caño de Tigre, Sur del Lago de Maracaibo, Venezuela. Direct trade.

About Ara Chocolat: Founded in Paris in 2015 by Venezuelan chocolate makers Andrés Zakhour and Sabrina Trillos, Ara Chocolat makes micro-batch bean-to-bar chocolate with an extraordinary focus on cacao origin and biodiversity. Andrés works directly with growers and cooperatives throughout Latin America to source rare native and ancestral cacao varieties, building transparent relationships while helping preserve the remarkable diversity of fine cacao. Ara roasts and crafts its chocolate in its small Paris workshop, allowing the character of each origin and cacao variety to remain at the center of every bar.
