Chutneys, pickles, and relishes are all flavorful condiments that enhance meals, but they differ in texture, taste, and preparation. Chutneys are typically smooth or slightly chunky, made from fruits or vegetables cooked with sugar, vinegar, and spices. They’re often sweet, tangy, or spicy and commonly used in Indian cuisine as a dip or side for curries.
Pickles are fruits or vegetables preserved in brine or vinegar, sometimes through fermentation. They’re known for their sour, salty, and sometimes spicy flavors, often eaten as a snack or served as a zesty side. Relishes, on the other hand, are finely chopped mixtures of pickled vegetables, lightly sweet and tangy, often used as a topping for burgers and hot dogs.
While all three add bold flavor to food and often use vinegar and spices, chutneys are more saucy, pickles are preserved and usually whole or sliced, and relishes are chopped and used more like a topping.
