On 07.07.07 (an auspicious day!), the first Lakrids by Johan Bülow shop opened in Svaneke.

Svaneke is a very small town on the eastern coast of the Baltic island of Bornholm in Denmark.

It lies primarily in Svaneke Parish and partly in Ibsker Parish. The town holds the distinction of being Denmark's easternmost and—until a few years ago—smallest chartered town, with a population of just over 1,000 people.

Johan’s idea was to open a liquorice shop and cook the liquorice in the shop, so that the delightful aroma would waft out into the street—enticing passersby within a 100-meter radius. And it worked.

He began with these 4 versions: #1 Sweet - #2 Salty - #3 Red - #4 Hot

Since then, the product line has grown significantly. In 2009, Johan began coating his liquorice in chocolate—and a wonderfil new type of confection was born.

David affectionately calls the A, B, C, and D products “the gateway products”—because this real liquorice candy is oh-so-addictive.

The white chocolate–coated varieties with candy shells are like the most incredible, flavor-infused, white chocolate–covered, liquorice-filled M&M’s you’ll ever taste.

The Sea Buckthorn flavor is beyond description—even if you think you don’t like liquorice!
