Taste of the Cakes: Our 25th Annual Holiday Tasting

The holidays officially begin when the cakes come out.

Join us November 27–29 for ChefShop’s 25th annual Taste of the Cakes, one of our favorite traditions of the year. For three festive days, we’ll fill the tasting table with samples of the holiday treats we look forward to all year long.

Taste your way through our favorite panettone, panforte, fruitcakes, and other seasonal specialties from exceptional makers around the world. Compare rich, buttery cakes filled with fruit and chocolate, dense Italian confections packed with nuts and spice, and plenty of other delicious discoveries.

Whether you already have a holiday favorite or aren’t quite sure which cake belongs on your table, this is your chance to try a wide assortment before choosing. Bring your family, your friends, your kids—or simply bring your festive mood (ugly sweater optional).

The event is free and open-house style, so stop by whenever you can. We can’t wait to celebrate 25 years of holiday cake tasting with you!

Our favourite cocoa I have 8 varieties of cocoa at home -- red cocoa, black cocoa, natural cocoa, and several high-end specialty cocoas (Barry Extra Brut, Valrhona, Guittard, Ghirardelli...). My family goes through enormous quantities of cocoa powder -- for hot cocoa, brownies, chocolate cakes, cookies... and this is by far our favourite. It has depth, complexity, and richness. While the specialty cocoas are excellent, I find they can sometimes be quite bitter, lack richness or body. This one is always perfect for whatever we are making. And being in Canada, I go to great lengths to buy this cocoa -- that should tell you how much we love it! - Monika
