Maple Caramel Sauce Recipe
1/2 pound (2 sticks) unsalted butter2 cups packed dark muscovado sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup pure maple syrup Maple Caramel Sauce Recipe
This recipe is so simple - if you have the right ingredients on hand. A perfect sauce to jar and give as gifts for the holidays.
Originally adapted from Oprah.com, but I prefer the rich flavor of dark brown sugar.
directions:
1. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, melt butter. Be careful not to brown the butter.
2. Add sugar and salt, and continue to cook, stirring constantly, until sugar is completely dissolved. Adjust heat to medium and simmer a few more minutes.
3. Add maple syrup and simmer, stirring frequently, until sauce is thick, smooth, and coats a spoon - about 2 to 4 minutes longer.
4. Remove from heat and cool slightly.
5. Pour into heatproof decorative jars and cool completely.
6. Refrigerate in tightly sealed jars for up to 2 months.
Makes about 3 cups
