"A beautiful new edition of one of the most beloved cookbooks of all time, from “the Queen of Italian Cooking”" (Chicago Tribune). A timeless collection of classic Italian recipes — from Basil Bruschetta to the only tomato sauce you’ll ever need (the secret ingredient: butter) — beautifully illustrated and featuring new forewords by Lidia Bastianich and Victor Hazan.

As with all of Marcella’s books
, ESSENTIALS was translated and organized by her husband, Victor Hazan, himself an authority on food and wine.

"Chefshop has been, from its founding, one of Marcella’s – and mine – favorite sources of ingredients for our kitchen. The variety and quality of both packaged and fresh, local and imported foods that Eliza and Tim discover and gather, is immensely satisfying to us. When Marcella stopped in Seattle in 2008 to present her memoir, Amarcord, Eliza and Tim opened the doors of their shop and warehouse to host an unforgettable reception and generous tasting of their specialties. Marcella was greatly moved. It was the last event of her career, which ended with her life a few years later. On the 30th Anniversary of its first publshing, Chefshop is hosting another extraordinary event. There will be no more books coming from Marcella to celebrate here, making this a unique opportunity and event that no one will want to miss."    --  Victor Hazan

Before her passing, Marcella had written a guide to the market, her favorite subject, which is being published posthumously by Scribner. On the occasion, Chefshop is hosting another extraordinary party. Meeting Victor Hazan and the new edition of Classic Italian Cooking by Marcella Hazan
It was an honor to meet Victor in person! I love the revision of Classic Italian Cooking and that books one and two are combined in one edition. Especially loved the two forwards and the preface. Any cook who doesn't have I and II should get this book. Marcella does such a nice job of teaching us about kinds of pasta and appropriate uses, unique preparations of vegetables, the perfect tomato sauce, and my family's favorites, cannelloni and spinach pasta roll...YUMM!!!
